New Workplace-New Skill-New Expectations

After the massive hit, the corona pandemic has had on our economy the layoffs and turnover rate for companies has drastically increased. So was the case of Arushi who after being layoff by her previous company because of massive losses had to find another job. Instead of immediately applying for a new job in the marketplace Arushi decided to wait for things to get better and to understand the changes taking place in the market. After a month of strenuous study of the market and what is required she started working on herself and scored a new opportunity for herself within one and a half months of being laid off.

Why do what she did?

Arushi was able to find a good opportunity for herself and was able to get a job because she realized that a new workplace will require her to have some new and different skills along with new expectations as compared to her last workplace. She focused on understanding what are the kind of skills that would be required considering the state the economy was in during the pandemic. Skills like digital understanding and technological adaptability have become more prominent than ever after the easiness of technology has swiftly entered the functions and operations of companies.

Along with that social, communication, growth, and analytical skills are equally important to get the best out of an employee during challenging times. While it is understandable to employers to not expect perfection from employees they still expect their employees to be diligent especially in times of distress. It is expected from employees to put forth their queries and complaints, to be communicative with not only their superiors but also their colleagues. Being approachable is another skill every employee should work on as if one is hostile that reduces the frequency of others having positive feedback and criticism on their ideas.

It gets easier

A new workplace has its challenges and it is natural to be anxious which people in your workplace have experienced at one point or another understand and relate to. While it is understandable that being accustomed to a new place and new people can take the time it is also not expected from an employee to completely give up wanting to adapt to things. Employers expect their employees to have a positive attitude towards thing even if personally doesn't sit well with them and be willing to make an effort. Along with this, you need to learn to be an asset to the organization and find your own place over time.

Things get better and the anxiety to perform fade over time if one has the willingness to learn, flexibility, and open-mindedness towards their workplace. These qualities are also what employers expect from a new employee along with loyalty to the organization, dependability, reliability, and proactiveness. Employers won't just hire someone based on their IQ however focuses on emotional intelligence as well along with several other aspects.

Creating a better tomorrow

An organization trains their employee for them to be better and more productive. Employees need to understand that learning is a never-ending process and doesn't stop when they get their degrees. Employees will be challenged, trained, and given tasks during their time in the organization which might seem impossible to them but is the organization's way of getting their best selves out there. Such instances teach one skill like decision-making, leadership, self-control, and resilience.

All these aspects help in deciding the value of an employee and their scope of the environment. Stubbornness towards change and expectations of the company is not going to help an employee. While all of this can be overwhelming nothing humanly impossible is usually expected from employees by the employers and superiors because they understand the struggle and flux of being an employee as well.
