Position: Lab Engineer

Location: Chennai

Criteria: Degree in (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science) with 8+ years of experience in chemical laboratory environment

Job Summary:   This position is responsible for producing Test samples/Coupons, conducting testing, recording data, and generating Test report.  Testing /Experiments must be conducted in a safe manner according to company quality 5s and safety policies. Testing / Experiments and final test report must be developed in a timely manner that will permit their evaluation, qualification, and implementation use by Both internal and external

Skills:

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a chemical lab environment and with lab equipment and computers.  Able to carry out laboratory activities.  

  • Frequently sit, view a computer screen, and type on a keyboard for extended periods of times.

  • Verbally communicate one-on-one and in front of groups.

SHE Requirements:

  • Implementing company’s Health, Safety & Environment policy, rules, and regulations as per legal requirements.

  • Knowledge of Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis/Job safety analysis and environmental aspect impact.

  • Participate in the investigation of incidents/accidents and near misses and maintaining of accident statistic records & recommending the suggestion to prevent them.

  • Tracking of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Report unsafe condition and unsafe act on daily basis.

  • Verifications of different Work Permits and its implementation.

  • Documentation and implementation of ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 standards.

  • Conduct daily toolbox talk on site.

  • Provide trainings like, Emergency Preparedness, Fire safety, Material handling, Hazard identification and Risk analysis, Electrical safety, working at height, Scaffolding, logout and Tagout (LOTO) etc.

  • Carried out Safety inspections.

  • Maintenance and monitoring of First aid and firefighting equipment’s.

  • Maintenance and monitoring of Effluent treatment and periodical environmental monitoring.

  • Conducting emergency drills and mock drills.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Laboratory Setup and Management 

  • Assures all Testing, experiments and laboratory work is conducted in a safe manner including understanding the SDSs, the use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), adherence to site safety practices, use of laboratory equipment, 5S, etc. and that products and processes comply with industry accepted standards and norms.

  • Maintains Inventory of company Products, test coupons, Consumable & essential equipment spares.

  • Working knowledge in SOP, EOP & test methods.

  • Good analytical skill and problem-solving techniques required during customer compliant. 

  • Basic Knowledge in Mechanical Testing Equipment, Rheology Characterization Equipment, Thermal Characterization, Chemical Characterization Equipment’s, Reliability & Environmental Testing.

  • Equipment Calibration and Maintenance, Kaizen and 5S Maintenance

  • Prepare Test plan & Test report share internal Team and customer.

  • Plans daily and weekly activities, multi-tasking as necessary to complete assigned tasks. 

  • Participates in team meetings as a subject matter expert and provides information in meetings with external contacts. 

  • Act as a lab technical resource in team’s area of responsibility. Provide technical support services within the team as well as with external teams as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.
